Sorry for my AWOL status, as I've been hanging out with the fam in Michigan. I understand that due to the auto bailout there may be some animosity towards the Great Lakes state. So, you'll be glad to know that it is cold as fuck here with Antarctica-sized snow drifts, and I'm half-expecting some kind of yeti to come through the door looking for a human snack. And on that note, Subrookie sent an interesting article from some smart professor (ooo, Stanford) about "Global Cooling". From Seattle P-I:
"Global Warming is over, and Global Warming Theory has failed. There is no evidence that CO2 drives world temperatures or any consequent climate change," Imperial College London astrophysicist and long-range forecaster Piers Corbyn wrote British Members of Parliament on Oct. 28. "According to official data in every year since 1998, world temperatures have been colder than that year, yet CO2 has been rising rapidly." That evening, as the House of Commons debated legislation on so-called "global-warming," October snow fell in London for the first time since 1922.I'm not really a global-warming denier, but when Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth" is "Very Convenient" for government-subsidized special interest groups and extorting money from big business through carbon taxes, it can arouse suspicion. The politicization of global warming alarmism is nauseating, and the fact that the entire country is freezing its collective ass off just gives more reasons to get frustrated with global warming advocates who are high on rhetoric and low on science.

Oh! I used to love that stuff, "Carne de Refugio"
Refugee meat in a can. If it were for sale I would buy it any day...Brigs back memories, I can still smell it on the stove...Mmmmm.
The Global Warming argument may be a bunch of bunk, I don't know nor have the energy to research myself. If it motivates people to clean up their shit (litter, air pollution, water) it will still be for the better.
One thing cannot be argued where I live; the Gulf of Mexico is dirtier now than even 5 years ago. Golf courses dump chems in the water and people simply don't care what they throw overboard. Every year more fish wash up on shore and it's more difficult to see your feet when waist deep in H2O. It has hurt the tourist industry here as well- when out-of-staters come down for a week at the beach and they can't go into the water due to red tide they'll never come back to FLA.
Is refugee meat in a can like the spam knock off, because that might be suitable bachelor chow that I should purchase.
Wek,
I agree that environmental regulations are a good thing, but when it becomes so heavily politicized it just encourages junk science, heavy taxes, and the crippling of industry. I guess I advocate an even-keeled approach to our environmental woes.
No doubt we're gonna see some snake oil salesmen try to cash in on the global warming argument and there'll be plenty of morons (morans) to hand over $....maybe I should think of something too so I can take some loot from hippies with a guilty conscience?
PFFT! It's been an even 88 here nearly every day! I dunno what you guys are talkin about. ;)
It is cold here in OK - maybe not "cold as fuck" which made me LOL, but it is "Damn cold!"

soon enough, it will be time to change the terminology from "global warming" to "climate change", which is a more accurate description of events.
seattle is under an unusual blanket of snow, and it's "cold as fuck" in many southern states. that isn't an argument against climate change, its an example of it. weather extremes... its the trend.
Thanks for the link, Dave. The city of Seattle needs to extract its head from its ass and get advice from chilly cities that get a lot of snow every year. Use salt you maroons!
Cathcatz,
I'd like to see more scientific proof of these climate changes and less propaganda nonsense from the U.N. I trust science, and I do not trust politicians with an agenda.
do you tust the EPA?

(sorry, i don't know how to do the hyperlink thingy)
the science is out there, and its a concensus. you say you trust science, you believe in it, but you think there is an agenda behind it? why? who stands to profit from acknowledging the existence of climate change? and who stands to profit from denying it???? as always, follow the money.
People who refer to the cycle of warming and cooling as "Global Warming" apparently forget that at one point in the earths history the Great Lakes were formed by a one mile thick block of ice, an ice bridge connected Russia to Alaska and an ice sheet was as far south as the Missouri River in Missouri. At some point that sheet receded. Was it man induced then? No, jut because someone throws together a powerpoint doesn't make it all our fault.
I read the diary of the surgeon on Capt. Vancover's survey ship during the 1700's when he was charting the coast of Alaska. He notes that some areas had evidence of receding glaciers even then. We do effect the environment, but to say this is completely due to our influence is to ignore natural climate cycles. Michael Criten's book "Fear" is a great read about the science behind the Global Warming argument. They couldn't correctly forecast snow in the Seattle area for 3 days last week, but you're willing to hang your hat on climate models that go 100 years into the future? Merry Christmas!
i don't think it's an absolute, one way or the other. but i don't discount the facts either.
you keep saying "global warming"... it's kinda' like saying "pro-life" when it's not pro-life, it's ANTI-choice.
you may say it's all semantics, but it's not. it's absolutely deliberate.
