Everyone Loves an Underdog

Anyone else put on their fancy weekend hats and watch the Kentucky Derby? Mine That Bird (50-1) broke away on the final stretch showing that you can still succeed as a longshot in our country. Watch the replay, it's pretty cool.

I watched the Derby. Did you notice that Mine That Bird was a horse from New Mexico tracks? My father-in-law was in the racehorse business years ago and spent quite a bit of time at Sunland Park and Ruidosa. Yep, They are a bit redneck, but they do know horses.

Crooked as hell. The Beyer Rating on the colt hovered somewhere along the bottom dwellers and then "magically" runs away from the field in the home stretch. No way. Kinda had the same feeling when Ben Johnson blew away Carl Lewis in the Olympics.

Wek, I wouldn't doubt that the race was crooked. It was as if the horses and jockeys all knew their part and were holding to a pattern, but someone forgot to tell Mine That Bird and his jockey who sprinted to the front and ran for the finishline.
