4,000 Dead in Iraq is Great News for Some

Just saw this at Little Green Footballs and wanted to pass along. No, this meme is not from Ahmadinejad, but overrated fat-fuck, Michael Moore, of whom I am from the same home state (embarrassing I know). To commemorate another tragedy, Moore writes this on his email distribution list:

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Friends,

It would have to happen on Easter Sunday, wouldn’t it, that the 4,000th American soldier would die in Iraq. Play me that crazy preacher again, will you, about how maybe God, in all his infinite wisdom, may not exactly be blessing America these days. Is anyone surprised?

4,000 dead. Unofficial estimates are that there may be up to 100,000 wounded, injured, or mentally ruined by this war. And there could be up to a million Iraqi dead. We will pay the consequences of this for a long, long time. God will keep blessing America.

I'm sure Moore is ecstatic that the 4,000th soldier died on a religious holiday so he could crank out this tasteless email. What an asshole.

Although, of course, we all knew this number was coming, why is it a milestone? Is number 4,000 any more important or any less important than number 399 or number 2,999? What about them? Is there one less heart-wrenching than another? Is there one we don't care about?

No. It just means our suffering is 4,000 times greater.

I hate that any one of them is gone, I hate that all of them are gone. I hate that I can't bring any one of them back.

Kath,

War is hell right. But for some, war is a way to get people elected.

"Asshole' is such an appropriate word for MM.

LT,
Wel, the problem I have is Moore has no power in this situation. I really dont care what he has to say, when Moore acquires the ability to define the budget, send the military into areas for Imperial "National" interests and replies with insane god's-talking-to me comments like this one. I'll get puffed up with moral indignation.

Right now Dick's "So?" and "They volunteered" so fuck'em comments are more galling to me than some fat liberal film maker.

Good call Gene! I just brought Moore up, because I really don't like the guy (although Roger and Me is a pretty good flick). But yeah, it's best to scrutinize people in a position of authority.
