Transitions: That Swiss Dude Who Invented Acid

Albert Hoffman, the Swiss chemist who invented LSD back in the 30s, passed away at the ripe old age of 102. While LSD remains illegal and bad for you, it has been responsible for the creation of much of our cherished modern culture. The great bands inspired by trippin' out include Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath. Notable books are Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which were both penned under some serious influence of the mind-altering narcotic. One memorable movie is Alice in Wonderland, while classic TV characters who were obviously tripping balls include Velma from Scooby Doo and both Ren and Stimpy. Drugs may cause problems in society, but they also cause some pretty cool entertainment.

(note to Pentagon readers: LT Nixon whole-heartedly supports the DoD no-tolerance policy on drug abuse and has already passed enough piss tests for one lifetime)
