Ambassador Crocker Gets Presidential Medal of Freedom

David Ignatius of WaPo heaps praise and talks about the Ambassador's experience in the Middle East. Small Wars Journal opines on the Ambassador to Iraq's service:

BTW - Ryan Crocker is an official SWJ hero too - the right man, in the right job, at the right time - it does not get any better than that folks.
I disagree on one thing with SWJ. Because, our nation was very lucky to have such an experienced public servant leading diplomacy efforts during those extremely carnage-ridden months of early 2007. As a wise man once said, it's better to be lucky than good.

I'd like to know what Ambassador Crocker did to promote a sustainable political settlement in Iraq...you know, the endgame of the wildly successful surge?

Other than coordinate the entire economic and political strategy of the US with the GOI, not much really
